Aaron Swan & Associates, Inc.
Aaron Swan & Associates, Inc. was founded in 1975 by Aaron Swan as an Indian-Owned Engineering Consulting firm in Pierre, SD. The Aaron Swan Materials Testing Lab began operations in 1995. In December of 2019, Aaron Swan & Associates, Inc. was purchased by two long-term employees of the firm, Steve McCarty (President and majority owner) and Jeremy Phelps (Vice President and minority owner). In 2020, new laboratories were opened in Rapid City and Woonsocket, SD for the convenience of our clients. Also in that year, Aaron Swan & Associates, Inc. made investments into a Geotechnical Drill Rig and new hires that would eventually fuel the opening of a new Geotechnical Engineering Division. In spring of 2022, a fourth laboratory was opened in Sioux Falls, SD to make Aaron Swan & Associates, Inc.'s reach truly state-wide and further add value to our clients in neighboring states.

Relationships Far and Wide
Aaron Swan & Associates, Inc. has an extensive network of clients including federal, state, local, tribal and private construction contractors. Though we have a strong presence in South Dakota, our Materials Testing Division has done extensive work in North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana and Nebraska. Our Engineering Division has worked on projects, including bridge inspections, in 20+ states. We regard all of our clients as long-term partners and we rely on repeat business clients for over 90% our projects each year.
Extensive Experience
Our staff of 27 employees includes 3 registered Professional Engineers and a graduate Engineer. They have over 140 years of combined working experience in their respective fields including Hydrology, Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Engineering. Our 3 Laboratory Managers have all worked their way up to their current roles with Aaron Swan & Associates, Inc. from Field Technicians. They have accumulated a wealth of knowledge through their 70 years of combined work in Materials Testing. We have numerous field staff certified in most areas of testing in multiple states.
