PAVEMENT DESIGN
The Pavement Design is performed following the standard specifications for construction of roads and bridges on Federal Highway projects – FP- 03, the AASHTO Guide for Design of Pavement Structures and The Asphalt Institute for Asphalt Concrete and Other Hot-Mix Types MS-2.
The Design Factors Include:
-
Traffic Data for the 20 Year Design Period
-
Design Lane
-
ADT and Per Cent Trucks
-
Growth Factor
-
Classification of Highway
-
Environmental Considerations
-
Staged Construction
-
Interim Surfacing
-

-
Layer Coefficents
-

-
Subgrade Evaluation
-
Subgrade Design Limits
-
Resilient Modulus (Mr)
-

Surface Thickness
The complete ASA Pavement Design includes the typical grading section, typical surfacing section and recommendations for surface and subsurface drainage.
In addition to the sample route length soil investigation projects shown, ASA routinely performs these tasks as part of their overall design services on street projects, airport projects, school projects and
land development projects. On many of the ASA projects a portland cement concrete pavement is designed as an alternate and life cycle costs are compared for the owners ultimate selection.
