Mni
Wiconi Pipeline consists of water treatment plant, several water storage
reservoirs (both ground and elevated), several pump stations, river crossings
(both buried and bridge structure) and approximately 400 miles of generally 16
inch diameter welded steel water transmission pipeline with some minor PVC
branch transmission pipelines.
Aaron
Swan and Associates (AS&A) provided surveying, construction field
engineering and materials testing
services on Phases I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII and IX.
Aaron
Swan and Associates is currently providing the surveying, construction field
engineering and materials testing services on Phase VIII and IX of the Mni
Wiconi Pipeline Project. The
surveying consists of establishing control points using conventional total
station and GPS. The project
utilizes a coordinate system which traverses from the Ft. Pierre water treatment
plant to the project’s terminus on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation; this
coordinate system is a modified state plain system.
Once the project’s controls have been set, ASA is required to survey
the proposed alignment and profile a ROW strip.
This information is then provided to the “Design Engineers” for their
approval. After approval, AS&A
will make any necessary adjustments to the alignment and, provide the ROW and
construction staking using the pipe manufacturer’s lay-sheets and design grade
lines.
